In the past I tried bicycle commuting a few times, but never sticked to it. The main reason fot this has always been the hills on my way to work and back home. Although I enjoy commuting by bike, it takes longer and i am sweaty arriving at work. My girlfriend offered me to try out her e-bike for commuting. So I took the chance and was blown away at how comfortable it was getting around town. Fitness was never a problem, but having the assist on the climbs was great. I was able to get to Work faster without sweating. So I decided to build my own e-bike.

The kit I chose
For my e-bike conversion i searched the Internet looking for a big Brand offering what I wanted. I had some requirements to make this possible:
- has to work with 26 inch wheels
- disc brake compatible
- legal in germany (25km/h)
- as minimal as possible
- as cost effective as possible
Doing my research on e-bike conversion kits i found Yose Power. They had just introduced their new A3-Kit, which seemed to fit my requirements perfectly. So I pulled the trigger and ordered this kit. Everything went great, the ordering process was easy and shipping went flawlessly. A few days later i got the conversion kit delivered right to my doorstep.

The Yose Power A3 contains everything you need to transform your old bicycle into an e-bike. You get the 252Wh battery including a charger, the controller and your new rear wheel with the 250w motor already laced up. Of course all the necessary wiring is included in the package as well AS some Basic tools needed for the conversion and even a cassette removal tool.
The install of the Yose Power A3 Kit went smoothly, as all you have to do is mount the battery on the frame and get a tire and cassette on the rear wheel. Then you connect the motor to the battery controller and you’re ready to ride.

How does it ride?
Getting on the freshly transformed e-bike fehlt strange at first. The motor takes about half to a fully rotation of the cranks to kick in. Once you get rolling it almost feels like a regular bike. As there are no power modes one can choose from, all you have to do is pedal it. If you want more assistance you have to put more Power down yourself or shift down. This takes a bit to get used to but makes for a very relaxing ride around town. After a while I almost forgot I was riding an e-bike as it felt so natural how the assistance kicks in while rolling.
This e-bike conversion kit is definetly not the most powerful but it provides enough assistance to climb effortlessly on my commute. As you saw in the elevation profile above it gets quite steep and I am able to ascent without breaking a sweat. The range on this conversion kit is more than enough for my purpose as i haven’t tested the fully range yet. But after a couple of smaller rides i feel confident about the stated range of up to 60km, depending on the terrain and elevation changes. As this IS supposed to be my daily commuting bicycle the full range isn’t really a concern of mine as I can Charge the battery regularly. Also I am not planning on going for really long rides with this bike right now.
Conclusion

So coming to an end on this post I would say this e-bike conversion has been a total success. The built has been smoothly, the ride is great and the range is plenty for my needs. If you want to learn more about the Yose Power A3 e-bike conversion kit just click on the link or leave me a comment.
