How I got fit at home – and you can too

·

Picture this, you get home after a long day at work. You promised yourself to finally get fitter this summer, but your time is limited and there are other things you have to do as well. Going to the gym isn’t practical in this scenario, because it creates to much resistance to leave your home again and really do it. But getting fitter doesn’t require a lot of time or equipment. In this article i want to show you, how you can improve your fitness at home and how i did it myself.

Keep it simple

When you first start working out you don’t need many exercises or huge workouts to see results. Only patience and consistency. Your first workout routine could easily consist of only four exercises. These will increase your overall fitness and well-being. This workout can be tailored exactly to your starting point depending on your actual fitness and strength. So let’s look at the workout:

As I said this workout consists of only four exercises:

  • Push-Ups
  • Rowing (resistance bands/dumbells/kettlebells)
  • Burpees
  • Jumping Jacks

With these four exercises you train the majority of your body, what in my opinion is more than enough in the beginning. It is about getting used to working out and starting to do so on a regular basis.

You could start your workout with ten Jumping Jacks to get moving and to loosen up your body. This also functions as a little warm up. Next you follow up with ten Push-Ups and your rowing exercise before finally finishing off with as many burpees as you can do.

Do what works for you

Depending on your fitness this could be your whole workout for a few weeks. But please remember you can and should increase or decrease the amount of reps for each exercises to suit your fitness. If you can only do three Push-Ups then only do three and slowly work your way up. Again, it’s about getting started and getting fitter than you were a few weeks ago.

For the rowing exercise, as it is the only one using weights or equipment, you can really use what you have at home right now. Even a big bottle filled with water can give you one to two kilogramms of weights depending on your bottles. Performing a bent over row this might be enough to start. If you’re willing to spend some Money resistance bands are a great addition to your equipment at home. They don’t need a lot of space and can be used for various exercises.

Stay consistent

If you do this basic workout for four to six weeks you should start to see and feel some results. You will feel more energized and more comfortable in your body. You then can again tailor the workout exactly to your needs. You can extent the amount of reps, add other exercises to the workout or just add another round of the existing workout. It is up to you as it has to work for you and your life. Don’t hesitate to try things out but remember to not change too much at once, so you can tell what change works. And don’t expect massive progress over night. That’s not how this works. It takes a lot of patience, consistency and discipline to achieve the body of your dreams. But if you really want it, you can do it!

Until next time,
